So what do you think about the new look and feel of Stargate Universe? Why do you think the franchise has been changed?

Okay. I gave in and watched the promos for Universe on YouTube. I've got to say that it reminded me of one particular episode of Enterprise. Even the way the promo was shot reminded me of yet another episode of Enterprise.

I just don't know. It could be really cool or it could suck galactic lemons.

It might suck...but then again, since when has any of the Stargates have been bad? I think it will bring a whole new defination to Stargate.. The others dealt with battling others ( Ori, Go'ould, Wraith )...this one will be on a more internal level..the personal battles each one would have to go through in order to get off that ship...

If the show does suck we can all show up at conventions wearing galactic lemon t-shirts. (why am I hearing Rodney complaining about citrus in my head?)

This may be the first fan in joke.

It just came to me... a lemon surrounded by rings like Saturn being sucked into a stargate connected to a black hole. Do you find this valuable?

Now if I only had some artistic talent. My drawing instructor says my work reminds her of Toulouse le Trec but I never like any of my own work.

I'm going to have to work on it between now and the convention.

LOL! Machara, that is brilliant!

As for the question of the new direction, I don't think it's completely new because there were numerous episodes of SG1 and SGA that dealt with personal struggle and for the most part they were done very well. I imagine there'll still be lots of gate action, lots of alien encounters/alien landscapes to deal with etc, just more of a focus on the characters themselves and I think that's a good thing.

I'm staying positive :)

i like it. if you just think about how many directions it could have taken... super silly stargate, stargate comedy premium blend, stand-up stargate...it seems they have taken a better road. the lemon t-shirt should replace the 'you are here' eli wears as an inside joke. there could be lots of tee-hees in this one too, but only if you are a fan. like the pineapples in sg1. or some really subtle 'sub-plot' goings on... the list is endless...character names or nicknames, keeping the same dark arc on top. hmmm. I have to agree here, this is a new direction for the show but not for the industry. The old show built up the team over time and people understood them...over time. This industry format of "hit them hard with the action and build up the background by flashing back" is getting boring.

Most of us have been watching the series for years...why...cus we like the format, the people, the stories...and the humour!. This new series has no humour, it's more like Battlestar G...as in dark...and I never followed it...didn't like the format.

Don't get me wrong, the actors, writers etc are doing a great job, it looks great but don't consider it to be part of the Stargate story.

I watched the original movie, the entire SGA, and working on SG-1 - this is where my opinion comes from.

I like SGU so far. I'm wary about where it's going to ultimately go, but I like the characters, and that seems to be the most crucial thing. Or almost, anyways. Stargate has always provided such awesome characters, wouldn't you agree?

I also like that it is so different, though I'm hearing that it sounds like a mixture of many other things. (Like the filming style is influenced by Whedon's Firefly, or the plot direction is similiar to this or that)

I don't agree about a lack of humour - it's there, definitely, with Eli. He's the saving factor for the show, it seems.

Well... let's see, then.

I love the idea about the t-shirts though. :D

I look into my crystal ball:
The crazy grunt runs out of the pills that keep him under control. He runs amok at some imagined slight and kills someone. We have a courtroom scene and he gets sentenced to the "CHAIR". The mind stuffer gives him the code which he passes to Rush just before his mind implodes, making him a martyr .
Now the Crew have control of Destiny.
They still need power, so wander the Universe, gating to planets of the star systems that Rush now steers Destiny to in order to find the source of the power/fuel.
At this point the show becomes more like the early SG-1 with new worlds, some more alien lifeforms and new adventures every week.

I liked the first 2 SG series, and enjoyed watching every episode at least once. SGU just frustrates me. I see a bunch of enemies, and no intriguing characters. I keep trying to like it, but the more I watch, the more disappointed I get. I don't use that "hate" word to often, but....well, to much "trying to be like Battlestar". I never really liked Battlestar.

Why is this series so dark, why no fun, why so many jerks as characters in the cast? These characters, who are supposed to be best and brightest the World has to offer, are just a bunch of renegades who probably could have been in jail weeks before this mission. Not all of them, but enough. They barely have any redeeming qualities or virtues to make me care much about them. General O'Neil would not have approved of most of these people.

The story is not believable, based on what we know from the past series. A million year old ship? Right. The last one was 10,000 years old, and it had problems. So the older technology, million year old ship can survive all this time Wow, not a good track. Aside from the exterior of the ship, the rest of it it really visually boring, dark and crusty.

I want to like this SGU series, but either the production team has to follow more closely the style of the first 2 series, or do something more interesting in this new style. For now, I may not be able to watch much more, even though Stargate used to be one of my favorites.

It SUCKS bigtime. I will give it about 2 more episodes and then I'm through with it. SO MUCH like Battlestar Gallatica in cinematographic, crazy surreal plots, dark (cheap sets), stupid eerie background music through scenes - waste of money, too much plot centered on the characters past personal lives - was nice for one episode but move on, etc. The premise is great (having new realm to deal with) but the entire executive staff should be FIRED! Where are the aliens? What tech can they discover on this new ship? ETC. The craziest thing is that I think they would be spending the majority of the "normal" plots trying to discover the tech behind the ship and how to get more control of their situation. So very disappointing - I hope they continue w/new episodes of Atlantis - it's still my favorite of the series (although SG-1 certainly kept my interest for years and started the whole thing). Scyfy should be embarrassed by this attempt! 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
