Hi, everyone. I just wanted to see if I could get some advice from some of you peeps from the Vancouver area. I'll be heading up your way for the Stargate Convention in April 2010 and will be staying at that hotel the convention is being held. But that's in the suburb of Burnaby (about 20 minutes from the actual downtown Vancouver area, from what I'm told)...
So after the convention is over, since I'll be staying another entire week to tour the city, I'd like to stay closer to where all the fun is... Can any of you offer any good suggestions on a nice place to stay? I hear there are all these great spots, but am not sure which of these will be where I'll do the best "touristy" stuff...I don't know the difference in the areas, such as: Vancouver, West Vancouver, Vancouver Island...etc...
Obviously, I'd like to stay at a reasonably priced place (but would also love a good view - which I feel will be everywhere around that city area)... Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks, Jeni

"Vancouver Island is actually a large island off the coast of BC. The major city there is Victoria the province's capital. Too far away for a day trip unless you want to spend 4 hours on a ferry and an hour (at least) to get to the ferry terminal from downtown Vancouver.
$160 US is like $183 CDN. You should be able to get a nice room.
The Sutton Place Hotel has rooms for $157.30 CAD. It's a good choice. Some actors stay there. http://www.vancouver.suttonplace.com/
The Century Plaza is two blocks over. It has a great spa. They recently renovated. http://www.century-plaza.com/#
The Pacific Palisades is closer to Stanley park and still within walking distance of downtown and Gastown. http://www.pacificpalisadeshotel.com/
You're not going to get a hotel close to everything you mentioned. Vancouver isn't really that dense. The museums are quite a ways from downtown. The art gallery is downtown. The Aquarium is in Stanley Park. you'll want to go to the park!
I don't find Chinatown that interesting. Then again I've been there a lot. There is the Sun Yet Sen Japanese Garden.
I'd be happy to help you with any questions. You might want to email me at machararayel @ gmail.com" You are THE BOMB, yo!! This is really quite good to know... I'm glad I asked for help. It's so overwhelming... It took me forever just to decide which con to go to - hahaha... Okay, now I have direction. Any other advice from you VanPeeps would always be appreciated throughout the year. I hope to get to meet some of you. Thanks again for your help!!
